History: Probably from near Villeréal in Lot-et-Garonne. Nearly lost but re-introduced by Numa Naugé in 1882 as a seedling
Tech: Possible grandparent (or half sibling) {via DNA} to Merlot(Via merlot parent Magdeleine Noire des Charentes) and Malbec(Cot). Used in producing Ederena & Egiodola and in the cross with Castets to produce Nitranka, Rimava & Váh.
Flavours: Tannic, spicy, full colour but lack acidity
